…then you can do a lot. And before you say ‘that’s just jumping out a plane’, well their sir / madam you are wrong. It wasn’t just jumping out a plane, there was more to it.
Back in January an opportunity came up for me to do a skydive for charity and for ages I have always wanted to do this. So I went for it! I emailed them back and said that I would be interested in doing so and they replied saying that it would be good. Now because I have a disability I decided to email the actual skydiving airfield about me having a disability and if I could actually do it. They answered saying that they didn’t have the right harness for me to do it.
This was very disappointing news so I emailed back to the charity saying the outcome and they were also disappointed but they told me not to worry. Now I could have given up and left it but I was actually determined to do this. So I went on Google and searched for disability skydiving airfields. I got to be honest I probably emailed just under 10 airfields… and almost every company said no and couldn’t help me or didn’t get back to me.
I might as well of given up as it was wasting time emailing potential airfields and getting the same response every time. But I didn’t!
Back on Google I went. This time I decided to search for places outside the UK! In the end I emailed a place in Ohio and Australia. Guess what? Both of them were able to do it as they had the right harness for me!
I decided to go with Ohio as it would be cheaper to fly there and a shorter journey. But wait? Who would go with me??? My mum, who usually goes with me to places, can’t anymore as of circumstances at home and many friends and family either work or go to university. No hope? I asked a friend who I have known for ages and he was able to book off work and come with me.
Now if I had given up on the first hurdle, I wouldn’t have had an amazing experience that not everyone does and that 2600 pounds wouldn’t have gone to charity.
What did we learn today?
Don’t give up and always push forward as amazing new experiences are there to be taken.
Inspiring with a difference! :)
